Additional Second Glance: A Novel Information

"Sometimes I wonder....Can a ghost find you, if she wants to?"

An intricate tale of love, haunting memories, and renewal, Second Glance begins in current-day Vermont, where an old man puts a piece of land up for sale and unintentionally raises protest from the local Abenaki Indian tribe, who insist it's a burial ground. When odd, supernatural events plague the town of Comtosook, a ghost hunter is hired by the developer to help convince the residents that there's nothing spiritual about the property.

Enter Ross Wakeman, a suicidal drifter who has put himself in mortal danger time and again. He's driven his car off a bridge into a lake. He's been mugged in New York City and struck by lightning in a calm country field. Yet despite his best efforts, life clings to him and pulls him ever deeper into the empty existence he cannot bear since his fianc‚e's death in a car crash eight years ago. Ross now lives only for the moment he might once again encounter the woman he loves. But in Comtosook, the only discovery Ross can lay claim to is that of Lia Beaumont, a skittish, mysterious woman who, like Ross, is on a search for something beyond the boundary separating life and death. Thus begins Jodi Picoult's enthralling and ultimately astonishing story of love, fate, and a crime of passion.

Hailed by critics as a "master" storyteller (Washington Post), Picoult once again "pushes herself, and consequently the reader, to think about the unthinkable" (Denver Post). Second Glance, her eeriest and most engrossing work yet, delves into a virtually unknown chapter of American history -- Vermont's eugenics project of the 1920s and 30s -- to provide a compelling study of the things that come back to haunt us -- literally and figuratively. Do we love across time, or in spite of it?

What Customers Say About Second Glance: A Novel:

I COULDN'T EXPLAIN, BUT YOU HAD TO BE THERE. BUT MOST OF JODI PICOULT'S BOOKS DO THIS TO ME. WOW.HAVEN'T READ ANYTHING SO POWERFUL OR SO THOUGHT PROVOKING IN A LONG TIME. GREAT BOOK AND CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT BOOK COULD TOP THIS. SECOND GLANCE WAS EVEN MORE SO. I BECAME ANNOYED WHEN I HAD TO PUT IT DOWN BECAUSE I HAD TO COOK, EAT, SLEEP OR HAD TO GOD FORBID ANSWER MY HUSBAND'S QUESTION ABOUT WHAT WAS ENGROSSING IN THIS BOOK. ONLY ANOTHER JODI PICOULT. PLEASE I HOPE SHE WRITES VERY QUICKLY.

I am pleased with the condition of this used book. The book arrived in less than a week and well packaged. I would buy from this vendor again.

Typically when reading a novel written by Jodi Picoult I find that I can't put it down. Another reviewer said that she kept waiting for something to happen and I couldn't agree more. The exact opposite was the case for Second Glance as I found myself struggling to continue after reading a mere 35 pages. All of the elements for a fantastic read are present as is Picoult's spot on writing technique, but the mark was missed by a mile. Page after page I was waiting for that "it" moment which brought it all together but that moment just wasn't there. This novel just did not make sense.

I loved that this book didn't feel like a typical ghost story, it wasn't a horror story either really. I am a huge fan of Ms. This one is my favorite of hers and it ranks among my all time favorite books by any author. The story was great, very well written and it flowed nicely. Picoult has really put together an intriguing story. I had been skeptical about this one after reading the premise (that's actually why I hadn't read it sooner than I did), I'm not into ghost stories at all.

The characters are very interesting, the story has all sorts of twists.it was just a great read all together. Picoult's work, I've read over half of her novels thus far. I don't want to give anything away here, I'd say just give it a chance. I was pleasantly surprised by this novel. I enjoyed it from the very first page, couldn't put it down. Ms.

It is tragic, romantic and hopeful.

Ms. I admit that I am only a third of the way through this book, but what has struck me like a bolt of lightning, is that Ms. Hoffman has written many books -most of which I have read and loved- and her style is very much hers-- always lots of magickal happenings and descriptions-- and I'm finding that in this book by Ms. Picoult's writing style in Second Glance is awfully like that of Alice Hoffman. I have read other Picoult books- and they're very good- but this one seems to be written in a different style. Picoult. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this.
